Vishva Patel

My artistic practice is rooted in the relationship between personal experience and the larger social and cultural narratives that shape identity. I use my own body and experiences as starting points to explore femininity, cultural heritage, self-realization, freedom, and the expectations placed on women. Through self-portraiture and symbolic imagery, I transform personal experiences into visual stories that invite viewers to find their own connections within them.

My work moves between realism and surrealism, combining traditional Indian visual references with contemporary materials, imagery, and symbolism. Butterflies, birds, flowers, bangles, textiles, windows, and other recurring elements become metaphors for transformation, resilience, confinement, and choice. Influenced by artists including Frida Kahlo, Salvador Dalí, and Manaku, I create dreamlike environments where reality and imagination overlap. Ultimately, my work asks how identity is formed, challenged, and continually transformed.
